BEWARE the Weekly Contest

The Weekly Contest is a cool new feature that Zynga introduced to their poker application. But beware...We all know what can happen to players looking for a huge amount of chips in a short time.

The Weekly Contest is not to be confused with the Weekly Tournament. The Weekly Tournament starts with a prize pot of 100,000,000 chips. As more players join, the pot gets bigger. It usually ends up being in excess of 600,000,000 chips! At one point, I finished better than 25th place. To see more details about how I did, click here.

The Weekly Contest is a competition between you and your 'poker buddies', to see who can win the most chips in a week. It doesn't matter how much chips you lose, it only counts what you win. So theoretically, you can win 100,000 chips, lose 200,000, and still beat your friend that makes 90,000 and loses none.

The award for beating all of your friends is 20K. You do the math. You will know if it is right for you.

UPDATE: October 10, 2011
I won the weekly contest last week, so why don't they show my pic wearing the crown?

  1. It is actually a contest to see who can win the most chips from a single hand within the period of one week. It doesn't even add up your winnings. Besides that, even if you are #1 in your buddy's list, you only win 20k if you are #1 in your own ladder.

It is definitely a dumb contest.

On a side note, here's a tip on how to win: DELETE all your buddies who play on higher stake tables than you. That way, your chances of earning 20,000 chips get higher. :/

(My buddies are definitely worth more than just twenty thousand chips a week.)
